Oxford is located in Southeastern Pennsylvania. It is in the western portion of Chester County and shares its western boundary with Lancaster County and its southern boundary with the state of Maryland. The community received its name of Oxford officially on April 8, 1833, when the borough was incorporated. But the area, then known as Hood's Cross Roads, and later as Oxford Cross Roads, had already been a place to stop for travelers going from Philadelphia to Baltimore, and for fish haulers from Lancaster and Reading, PA to North East, MD.

Oxford Borough is currently undergoing a revitalization through the efforts of Oxford Mainstreet Inc. The family farm, both Amish and "English", are prevalent in the Oxford area and you are likely to see both tractor and buggy on its winding roads. All of Chester County is experiencing housing growth, and Oxford is no exception. But there is still a great amount of farmland and open space and a great sense of community in this area, so come visit, come eat, come live here, Come To Oxford!

Oxford is more than the borough of Oxford and it's more than an exit off of Rt. 1 (Take Rt 10 or Rt 472). You need only travel the roads through the many townships that comprise Oxford (the townships of East Nottingham, Elk, Lower Oxford, Upper Oxford and West Nottingham) to see the beautiful countryside Oxford has to offer.

Beside the rolling fields of crops and the many farms, Oxford is home to several covered bridges. Take a ride on these country roads one day and enjoy the spectacular views.
